Two editions, one-time purchase, no subscription

Trying Solo? You do not need to buy anything to try it. Every hunt runs free for six minutes, with no account and nothing to install beyond a home-screen icon. Buy once and the time limit and the offline-map block go away for good.

Fox Pursuit Solo — for one operator

$9.95, one time. Direction finding on your own: take a bearing, move, take another, repeat; Solo plots each one on your map and shows where they cross — with the same probability area as Fox Pursuit Team. Nothing to host, no account, no sign-in. It installs to your phone's home screen like an app. Ready-made offline maps for the US, Canada, Mexico, most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and South Africa, with more countries being added — check the coverage map for your area.

Try it. You can run as many six-minute trial hunts as you would like without making a purchase. If it suits your needs, purchase a license.

Fox Pursuit Team — for a club or group

$77.95, one time, one site, lifetime license. Team is a fox-hunt site your club hosts. It allows simultaneous solo hunts, or, if collaboration is desired, it can put every hunter's bearings on one shared map in real time — with unlimited hunters and offline street-level maps. As the site host you have admin and analytics pages, and free updates. Your club or organization hosts it on its own web space (or Firebase's free hosting) with a free Firebase project — about an hour and a half of set-up following the included guide. No programming knowledge required.

Want this for your club? The full story, a live demo you can try from anywhere, and the answers to the usual questions are at foxpursuit.com.

Which one?

Team is for a club or organization hosting fox hunts. Members can use the application as individuals competing against each other, or multiple members can collaborate with everyone's bearings appearing on everyone's map, without any need for a net control. Solo is for one person: your bearings stay on your phone and nothing is shared. Both use the same maps and the same triangulation. A Team license does not include Solo; a Solo license does not run a club site.

After you buy Solo

1. Your receipt carries your license key. Keep it.
2. Open Fox Pursuit Solo on the phone you hunt with and add it to your home screen (the Getting Started page walks through it).
3. Activate once — paste the key on the Activate page and this phone is issued a permanent site key.
4. Hunt. From then on the app verifies its own key and never contacts anyone.

The license, in plain words

One purchase, one operator, for life — no renewal, free updates. The key is yours, not your phone's: a phone you replace or reset is activated again with the same license key, and so is a second phone you use yourself. It is verified by mathematics inside the browser, not by a server, so an activated Solo keeps working even if Fox Pursuit itself disappears. Refunds: 14 days, no questions, for either edition — ask through your Gumroad receipt.

Not for safety-of-life use

Fox Pursuit is for the sport of amateur radio direction finding — hidden-transmitter hunts, practice and training. It is not built or tested for search and rescue or any other situation where someone's safety depends on finding a signal. Phone compasses and GPS can be wrong without warning, and the map is a best estimate, not a fact. If a life may be at stake, call the professionals and use equipment made for the job.
